Cavity Filling
Wiregrass Smiles
$59 New Patient Special

Scheduling regular dental exams is essential to catch issues like cavities and tooth decay in their early stages. When these problems are identified, dental fillings offer an effective solution to restore and protect your teeth.
At Wiregrass Smiles, we use composite resin for most fillings. This material is designed to match the natural color of your teeth, creating a seamless and natural appearance. While composite fillings take a bit longer to apply, most patients prefer them for their aesthetic appeal. Other materials like gold or porcelain may also be used based on your needs and preferences. Modern dentistry has largely moved away from silver amalgam fillings due to their mercury content.

What To Expect
- Comfort First: Before we begin, a local anesthetic is applied to numb the gums around the affected tooth, ensuring a comfortable experience.
- Preparation: The decayed or damaged part of the tooth is carefully removed, leaving a clean surface for the filling.
- Filling Application: The composite resin is layered onto the tooth and hardened with a special light.
- Finishing Touches: Once the filling is in place, we smooth and polish the area to ensure a natural look and feel.

FAQs For Fillings
As with many other health issues, early detection is the key to prevention. Here are some common cavity-filling FAQs.
Most dental insurance companies cover part of the cost of a tooth-colored filling whether it is a new filling or a replacement for an old silver amalgam (metal) filling. Our office will help patients determine their coverage and personal cost during the consultation.
Don’t have insurance? It’s all good. Ask about our financing options. We will work with you on it because our ultimate goal is that you have healthy teeth and gums for life.
After a tooth filling, you may notice sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet, pressure, and more. This sensitivity is only temporary and should not last more than 1 – 2 weeks. You should continue to brush and floss normally and the dentist will monitor the condition of your filling at each visit and help you determine if and when you need a replacement.
Cavities may not cause you any pain until the decay reaches the internal tooth tissue. This discomfort will worsen as the decay of the enamel increases. Symptoms to look for include pain or sensitivity to hot and cold foods and drinks as well as sugar.
